Ty Llwyd Farm on Sound Avenue in Riverhead has been in the Wines family since around 1870 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Chris Wines started the dairy around 2010 and milks a small herd of Jersey cows fed on hay grown on the farm.
It’s one of the only raw milk farms on Long Island. New York allows raw milk to be sold only on the farm where it’s produced, and only by farms holding a state raw milk permit. Permitted farms are inspected and have their milk sampled and tested by the state, and they post a sign letting customers know the milk is unpasteurized.
Our tip: Demand is high in summer and there may be a waiting list, so reach out early.
