Mecox Bay Dairy in Bridgehampton has been in the Ludlow family since 1875 and is now run by Art Ludlow and his sons Peter and John. They milk about two dozen cows, and everything sold at the farm store is made on the farm.
New York allows raw milk to be sold only on the farm where it’s produced, and only by farms holding a state raw milk permit. Permitted farms are inspected and have their milk sampled and tested by the state, and they post a sign letting customers know the milk is unpasteurized.
Our tip: Their cheeses are some of the best known on Long Island. Pick some up with your milk.
