Axis Natural Foods is believed to be Maine’s longest running health food store. Peggy and Ken Schuler opened it in a small Lewiston storefront in 1970, and it moved to its current, much larger home on Center Street in Auburn in 2011.

For animal-based families in the Lewiston and Auburn area, Axis is one of the easiest places to buy raw milk without driving out to a farm. They carry raw cow milk, A2 raw milk, raw cream, and raw sheep milk from Misty Brook Farm in Albion, a well known organic farm in central Maine.

The rest of the store is a classic independent natural foods market, with organic produce, bulk grains, gluten free foods, cheeses, and a strong selection of local Maine brands.

Our tip: Raw milk deliveries sell out fast. Call ahead to ask when the next delivery comes in, and plan your trip around it.
